Fans mourn Pommes Frites after NYC building explosion

It’s only french fries — but die-hard fans were left saddened after an East Village explosion shuttered their favorite greasy snack shop.

The popular late-night Belgian fry shop Pommes Frites was among those decimated in the fire — sending foodies across the world into a tizzy on Twitter.

But owners Omer Shorshi and Suzanne Levinson urged customers to get some perspective on the tragedy — which injured at least 19 people on Thursday.

“Our staff and our customers are safe,” the owners posted on the restaurant’s Web site.

“Our main concern is for those who were injured. This is a terrible tragedy, and our hearts go out to them and their families,” they wrote.

The blaze won’t keep the grab-and-go eatery out of business for long, Shorshi told The Post.

“We hope to get a new place in the East Village ASAP,” he said.

Until then, they’ll be missed.

Here’s the announcement on the restaurant’s Web site stating that it’s closed:

Pommes Frites’ own last tweet before the fire now seems like a creepy omen:

Here are some fan reactions and tributes:

Talk about the end of an era. Yesterday's fire/explosion took out Pommes Frites, a french fry place I went to way back when I moved to NYC.

"Is Pommes Frites okay?" said Justin to himself quietly before running a twitter search & realizing others were concerned as well.

Of course, not everyone felt that grieving for the shop was appropriate:

I'm glad everyone in the East Village is safe but OH MY GOD WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITHOUT POMMES FRITES

As the former Foursquare Mayor of Pommes Frites, I ask that everyone THINK OF THE INJURED AND/OR HOMELESS JUST GET DISCO FRIES @ ANY DINER.

We all know that they can take the recipe for Pommes Frites and open a new location, right? You can't bring people back from the dead.

Twitter star Desus Nice tried to bring some perspective:

It's possible to tweet about the Pommes Frites shop AND be concerned about the ppl injured but keep those tweets coming fun police.
