The New York sports scene has a superstar player nicknamed “The Dark Knight” in Mets pitcher Matt Harvey. On Monday, another Gotham sports superstar, Odell Beckham Jr., paid tribute to Batman’s iconic nemesis from the 2008 movie that inspired Harvey’s moniker.
In warmups before Beckham’s Giants took on the Dolphins, the wide receiver wore gloves and cleats bearing the likeness of “The Joker,” as portrayed so memorably by the late Heath Ledger.
Harvey may not have been on hand, but there actually was a “Batman” at Sun Life Stadium, in the form of Miami wide receiver Jarvis Landry. A teammate of Beckham’s at LSU, he wore cleats giving the nod to the good guy (well, quasi-good guy).
Apparently, the NFL isn’t quite as stringent about what its players wear before games as it is about in-game apparel. It’s too bad Beckham couldn’t wear the “Joker” cleats during the game, as they would have had quite the close-up in replays that proved he did, indeed, make a touchdown catch against the Dolphins.
